Hi! Going to Strasbourg and Colmar, France, to see Christmas markets. Can anyone suggest the best city to fly into from the Midwest? Any recommendations that you have, I am interested in and would be most grateful! We will only be in Europe about eight days and are wondering where else to go besides the two above mentioned cities. Thank you very much!

What airport is the midwest?
From ORD, you have nonstops to Paris, but flights possibly to FRA, GVE, ZRH, or MUC would get you closer to Strasbourg. All have train connections.
To answer this, we would need to know when you want to travel, and from where.
Assuming you are in MPLS, just fly direct to Paris and take the train to the Alsace area.
Nice relatively short train ride (2 hours+) from Paris to Strasbourg.
Consider Cologne, Germany for Christmas Markets as well.
In November 2021 we flew in from SFO to CDG, had a 3 hour layover and took the train directly from CDG Terminal 2 (Aeroport CDG2) to Strasbourg. For Colmar, I just purchased our tickets the day off from the Strasbourg station. Enjoyed the cities and Christmas Markets. I made sure we arrived in Colmar with a few hours before sunset, really liked seeing both cities lit up at night.

The closest major airport to Strasbourg is Frankfurt. So that would be my suggestion. Lufthansa also has their own coaches between Strasbourg and Frankfurt. https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/lufthansa-express-bus
