Christmas in Colmar and Strasbourg

After reading forum posts, I understand that there are conflicting opinions on the question of staying in Colmar or Strasbourg. However, I would like to throw in the idea of travel the first/second week of December into the mix. Would traveling during the Christmas season influence your choice of cities? I would appreciate thoughts such as markets, festivities, holiday closures, decorations, and beauty at that time of year.

have a look at last year's websites. There are other towns as well. I arrived in Strasbourg by train, checked my bag at the station and spent the day seeing a bit of the city and all the markets, then an evening train to Colmar for 2 nights, 1 full day, then trained to Germany. I liked staying in Colmar. The markets closed at 7 p.m. (they may have been open a bit later in Strasbourg). It was beautiful to walk through the streets and enjoy the Christmas decorations once the crowds had gone.

My trip was the second week of December.
