Choosing a home base, renting a country home in Provence?

Hello/bonjour

We-a couple in our 50s-are planning a trip to the South of France in September with a split stay in Côte d'Azur (Menton) and Provence. I would like to rent a charming country house somewhere in the area between Arles, Avignon, and L'isle-sur-la-Sorge. I am thinking Saint-Rémy is ideal but any other suggestions? Is nearer a city better? We intend to rent a car. Our vision is a wine country day trip, a day in Avignon, seeing Rousillon... but, really, just living the slow life of markets and local cuisine in this beautiful location. I love gardens & flowers, wine, and all types of pretty things. Suggestions from past experiences much appreciated!

Saint Remy is always nice, one of my favorite towns, but there are so many charming locations that you have a lot of options. With a car you will have it made. We like to go through gites-de-france for renting a place. They have been around longer than AirBandB and are well-organized and well-run. Our last rental through them was a large house in the Dorodgne valley near La Roque-Gageac. We have used them for one and two night stays at chambres d'hote as well. Avignon is one of my least favorite places in the general Provence/Luberon area. How many nights are you looking at? When in the area, try to visit the Pont de Gard, Vaison-la-Romaine, Arles, Les Baux, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.......too many nice places to mention.
Amusez-vous bien!

In 2022 we stayed a month in Maussane-les-Alpilles in Provence. Just south of St Remy. We loved it. Small town but big enough to have 3 bakeries, 2 grocery stores, wine, cheese, fish and butcher shops and at least 10 restaurants and cafes. A central plaza with cafes around. There is weekly market. Easy to get all around the area from there (Arles, Avignon, Aix en Provence, Nimes, Luberon, St Remy, Les Baux, Chateau Neuf du Pape). Good large public parking lot if you don't have a space right at your accommodation. We had a wonderful time and never ran out of things to do. Here is link to tourist information center. https://maussane.com/en/ Enjoy the planning!

I spent 10 days in Normandy last May, and one of my co-workers did 2 weeks in Brittany just after that. Both of us used FeWo and had fantastic places to stay in. In fact, I've bookmarked the Brittany address for a future stay on my part. Much better than hotels or AirBnB.
