Any advice about travels to Basque country, Spain or France during cherry harvest? Great places, festivals, getting there? We are interested in tasting the varieties and learning about the fruit tree agriculture there. Thanks

There are many varieties of cherries. Some are sour, some are sweet, but the best come from the Burlat and are dark, dark red.

I happened to be in Ceret for the cherry festival. I went to see the art museum's Soutines and was delightfully surprised by the festival. Since I'm mostly interested in the eating of cherries I was absolutely thrilled at buying a kilo for one euro. The streets were full of cherry pits and everyone had a cherry stained mouth area. Serious cherry eating!
