Chateau de Sully

We'll be touring Normandy in September and our TA said she'd get us into the Chateau de Sully nearby. Has anyone stayed there? Some comments on TripAdvisor say the food is very expensive particularly breakfast. I'm wondering if there are any cafe's nearby to get something quickly before heading to Normandy or even Giverny.

I see on the hotel web site that breakfast costs 19-22 euros. It looks like an isolated location, although just a few kilometers from there to Bayeux. If your destination is not Bayeux, then I would plan to pack a few supplies in the car from your last location.

Breakfast was included with our booking and the Chateau was beautiful. The room was clean & spacious, the hosts were very gracious & helpful. The small castle is located just outside of Bayeux. Dinners looked a bit pricey and noticed many who had reservations were dressed. We ate in town as we continued to explore. The Tapestry is just AMAZING!

Kathy we are planning on taking a RS tour next April (BOE 21 day) and going to Normandy after. We have reservations for two nights in Bayeux at Le Manoir Sainte Victoire. Our plan as of now is to take the train early out of Paris on the Saturday (arrive around noon) the tour ends and return on the last train out of Bayeux to Paris (leaves at 18:00) on the following Monday. We also are going on an all day D-Day tour (Band of Brothers with Overlord Tours) on the Sunday. My question to you is do you think we will have enough time to walk around Bayeux on that Saturday afternoon and Monday? Anyone who has been to Bayeux if you would let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

We had a day and a half there and that should be plenty of time. There was no line to get into the Tapestry and the single line inside moves around the tapestry as you listen to the story on earphones. It's much larger than I thought but oh so thorough and interesting. It won't take long to see it however. The town itself isn't that big but has a lot of interesting shops and places to eat. You can definitely in my opinion see it in a day.

We stayed there in 2013 and it was pleasant, just above what Rick calls Worthwhile Splurge. But they have lost their Andrew Harper listing, if you know what that Masters of the Universe group means. It is not remotely, "isolated" if you have a car. Indeed, it is ideal for self-guided D-day Beaches. But the Zeitgeist here is that you must hire Sergeant Rock to tell you all about it. I respectfully disagree. It is not a tourist-class or budget accomodation.

Generally speaking, eating breakfast out in France is not really a thing in my experience. The closest thing you'll get is a boulangerie for a coffee and croissant before heading out for the day. Get a package deal with breakfast included if you can.

Thanks Kathy for the info. We plan on being in Bayeux by noon and hopefully can catch up with one of the walking city tours that Saturday afternoon. This will leave us Saturday and Sunday night along with all day Monday to visit the rest of the city. Glad you had a good time.
