Do you recommend a day trip from Paris to tour Palace? If so how do we get there?
Thanks,
Jean
I sent you a pm today

It was a very worthwhile day trip for us. And I am not really into places like this!
I agree. It's a pleasant day trip. We just took the train.
Definitely worthwhile, the chateau is less heavily furnished inside than some but the building is spectacular. As far as access goes, get the train to Fontainebleau-Avon from Gare de Lyon in Paris. Depending on how energetic you are you can either walk from the station to the chateau or get a bus (the station and the chateau are on opposite sides of the town centre). The buses can get overcrowded on summer weekends at the times people are arriving or leaving on day trips.
In comparison to the crowds and chaos of Versailles, Fontainebleau was wonderful. Felt like we had the entire place to ourselves because there were only few visitors (this was in fall of 2019). Easy to take the train and then a local bus.

Certainly worth the day trip, especially if you are interested in French history and European history too. I have visited it twice but like to come back for another. And Fontainebleau itself has a pleasant vibe.
As I have a bad back, are there taxis at the train station in Fontainebleau to/from the Chateau?
Thank you all for your recommendations,
Jean

I don't think you'll find taxis waiting, but Uber is available out there (I just checked) and there are regular buses (line 1).
