We are Bruno fans and want to see Chateau de Commarque when we are in the Dordogne in October. RS guide says good walking shoes are essential. What is the trail like? Is it level? I wear New Balance sneakers for all my travel walking and hope these will be sufficient.
Thanks in advance.

Sneakers are fine -- the trail is a gravel road. It was a very evocative place. As you can see from the snapshots, I was wearing lightweight hiking boots but my husband is in Tevas.
I wore New Balance type shoes and was pretty much ok. There’s a long gravel path to walk to enter. Then it’s climbing up and down. There’s a tower to climb, that I chose to miss, but my husband, who is pretty athletic, climbed to the top. And we’re old people but with no physical disabilities or joint problems. Janet’s been there too, so maybe she’ll see this and answer.
Edit: answering at the same time. Janet’s blog represents it accurately, including those narrow little stairs without a handrail.
I didn't tackle the tower either which turned out to be wise as I didn't have this good sense in Roquebrune and slipped on very slick stone steps and broke my elbow badly requiring getting wired back together in surgery.
