Interested to know if anyone has been here. Thinking of visiting enroute to Brittany and the Loire valley.
We thought the tapestry was one of the best things we saw in the Loire valley. That was in 1995. I believe there is now a modern tapestry on the same theme, as well.
I can't attest to it, but my boss went last year and he absolutely raved about it - found it really fascinating.
I have seen the tapestry just over a month ago and it is indeed impressive. But have to say founded it not so intriguing as the one in Bayeux. The latter is about the Norman invasion of England in 1066 and depicted in such a way that it reads like a story and made it for me more involving to see it. The one in Angers is more symbolic and somehow experienced it as less involving, but that's the way I see it. Maybe if I had come to the place with more background information and more knowledge about the Hundred Years’ War it would have been different to get the message. And have to say also could not spend enough time as needed there as I had to drive home the same day. Again it is impressive and worth to see, but IMO not so involving as hoped despite the little time I had.
You can park the car for free at the large parking in front of Musée Jean-Lurçat where the contemporary tapestry is on display.
