Chartres lodging recommendations

Finishing two months in France. Lucky enough to have spent wonderful time in Dordogne, loire and Brittany. Driving from Bayeux and want to spend two nights in Chartres area before dropping off car at CDG and staying in Paris for 5 nights before returning home. Any recommendations on where to stay in Chartres area. I’ve reached my “limit” on planning after 2 months on the road!

Many thanks

We stayed recently for a night at the quirky old Le Parvis which is adjacent to the Cathedral. When we were there last spring they were laying concrete in front of the Cathedral and so we had to sort of walk on boards to get there, but that will be long done and it is a wonderful location for the illuminations. Our room was a little suite with bedroom and sitting room which we like a lot since my husband likes to sleep later than I do. It is an antique, but we liked that and it was very comfortable.

Don't miss getting dinner at https://restaurant-moulin-ponceau.fr/fr/. We had that table in the window that overlooks the little river and the view was just lovely. The service and food were outstanding. We ate there 30 years ago when it was managed by someone else; these are I think fairly new owners of the place which was closed for awhile. The food is better now and it is just a lovely experience. If you plan dinner so it is dark when you are done, some of the illuminations are actually done down on the river, on the bridges and such and you can stroll and see those before going back up the hill to the Cathedral. We did the overnight for the illuminations and are glad we did. They really are quite extraordinary. Two completely different shows which repeat throughout the evening.

It depends on what you are looking for. We just wanted a place to sleep so we choose the Ibis Styles. Very clean, very budget friendly, close to the cathedral and the train station.

I've stayed at the Grande Monarque Hotel and really liked it. Just a little bit further than the Ibis Styles but still a very easy walk from the train station, and has a nice restaurant and cozy bar.

Last time I stayed at a B&B that is no longer available, but I am planning to stay at this hotel next time. It has great reviews and lovely rooms, plus very close to the cathedral:
