Chartres from CDG--direct train available?

Arrive (God willing) in CDG on 10 Feb. 2 days Pre Steves Best of Paris. Want to travel direct to Chartres (reserved a monastery room for 75 Euros/night) to visit the cathedral and town.
Any suggestions or experiences re train from CDG to Chartres? How about train back to Paris? .

Hi,
No, there are no direct trains from CDG.

The easiest way to go is to take a taxi (€58) to Montparnasse station in Paris, which has hourly-or-better trains to Chartres (roughly €17, advance purchase not needed). This is the train you'll need to go back to Paris, by the way.

It would be cheaper (€13 or so instead of €58) to take public transportation instead of a taxi from CDG to Montparnasse, but that involves taking the RER B to Denfert-Rochereau and changing for metro line 6 there to Montparnasse. It is a bit of a hassle after a long flight!

Those monastery rooms have a great location. Unfortunately, I don't know if the great light show at the cathedral happens in February.

If budget is a concern, take the RER B to Denfert Rochereau and then the 6 metro to Montparnasse to get the train. Note, you MUST be pickpocket proof -- no wallets in pockets. Use a money belt under your clothes in transit, or one of those neck wallets and hang onto the bag with valuables e.g. computer bag or whatever. This is true any time you are on public transport or in crowded places.
