I was lucky to run across Malcolm Miller giving a tour in 1981 and finish that tour ( the morning tour ) and then attend the afternoon tour. At the start of that tour he asked who had been to the morning tour or the ones the previous day so he could minimize duplication. Wonderful tours. At that time he could not charge for tours and had to rely on tips. I couldn’t belueve that some stiffed him

I consider myself lucky to have seen him, too. But I remember people asked him some of the stupidest questions I have ever heard!

Thank you both. I did reach out to the Friends of Chartres which Malcom Miller is a part of. They do have tours and they are private and a bit pricey for two of us. Thanks again!

We, too, have recently inquired about a tour of the Cathedral. Both Anne Marie Woods and her colleague Victoria were unavailable. I then reached out to the Chartres tourism office and received this reply. I am copying it here in case it is of interest to you but also because I could not previously find any mention of the "going rate" of private tours of the Cathedral.

We do not organize daily or pre-planned tours of the cathedral in English, but if you would like, we can try to find an available guide for you.

For a private guided tour of the Cathedral, please note the following information:

• Date:

• Time: 00:00 (please specify)

• Duration: 00:00 (1 hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours)

• Language: English

• Number of people: 2

We need all of this information to make a reservation.

Here are the standard rates for our one-hour tours (excluding public holidays and Sundays):

• For a group of 1 to 4 people: €145 flat rate

• For a group of 5 to 10 people: €165 flat rate, audio guides included if 10 people

• For a group of 11+ people: €14 per person, audio guides included

Once you confirm your reservation, we will contact you as soon as a guide has confirmed their availability.
