The most recent guidebook is incorrect. The daily tour in English by Ann-Marie Wood starts May 2 until the end of the September. We missed it, but ended up talking to her when she was getting ready for a private tour and she told us of the change from the guidebook.
you can send your report to the company by using one of the buttons at the bottom of the page. It is unlikely they will see it here.
Thanks for the update
Perfect thank you.
Is this tour at a specific time? You say the daily tour...when is it?
Guidebooks can often be incorrect when it comes to opening/closing times of sites/restaurants etc. since they are obviously static and can't be updated until future printings, unlike websites. In the case of the cathedral in Chartres and other similar sites it is always best to check official websites and/or tourist office websites. The Chartres tourist office website has all the info you need about visiting the cathedral, whether on your own or with a guide (Anne Marie Woods or Malcolm Miller):
Pre-RS Best of Paris 02/23, I trained to Chartres. My mission, as a religious Catholic & as a history professor who taught about it for years, was to experience the Chartres Cathedral. The posted info was plenty to assist me to learn and enjoy my visits.
**** Over 2 days, I spent well over 6 hours in--and atop--the Cathedral, including a Saturday night Mass. I had plenty of info w/o needing a guide. I independently explored the windows, the amazing Biblical carvings, and the interior architecture. (Temp was about 3-4C--it was wicked cold in there.)
The tourist kiosk offered a roof tour in French, asking me in English if I was sure. Yes. A lifetime thrill--for over an hour I was on & explored the roof of one of the world's most famous Cathedrals while not understanding a word of the guide, but using my knowledge of Gothic structures and my in-the-moment realizations learned so much. No English speaking guide would have made this a better experience.-That's why I am an independent traveler. ab
"it was wicked cold in there."
I detect a word commonly used amongst Bostonians in that comment. ;)
