We are planning to travel to Paris in 2 weeks. I am curious how long it is taking to clear customs now that we have to either prove we are vaccinated or if we will be under quarantine if not vaccinated. We usually take a car service from the airport to our hotel, as it is easier than a shuttle with multiple stops. I understand that the driver can no longer meet us outside of customs. Can anyone who has traveled since mid-July let give a preview of how the screening process works both arriving and departing from CDG. I spoke to our airline (American) and they are of little help other than to direct us to their "site" for travel information which is not that helpful when you want to know what happens when you actually land.
It's not clear from your question whether or not you are vaccinated. Also, when you say "travel to Paris," is this on a flight from the US, from Canada, or elsewhere?
Good question. We’re going in a week so we’d like to know, too. We’re scheduled to fly from L. A. To Heathrow (plan D) and the catch a connecting flight to CDG ( plan E).
I arrived into CDG 2 weeks ago. The wait was long because of multiple flights arriving at the same time. Other than that when you go through passport control, also be prepared to show your CDC vaccination card. I did see a couple of drivers with signs welcoming customers, but very few. Starting August 1 be prepared to show your vaccination card and passport to enter a restaurant. It’s already necessary at museums.
Three weeks ago our CDC cards were verified at check in in Indiana and again at ATL before boarding the transatlantic flight. We had no CDC card verification at CDG. Our wait at passport was 5 minutes at 6:50 am with no other planes arriving. So you can't generalize.
Thank you for the replies. We are traveling from the USA and plan to be in Paris 10 days. We are just excited to be back in Europe and decided to play it "safe" to stay in once place as we navigate the Covid world of travel. We hope by December things will be a bit clearer regarding inside-EU travel - as we love taking long day trips via the train to other areas of Europe. As said having been to Paris previously, I was aware of how quickly (or not so quickly depending on what time your flight landed and how many others arrived at the same time) you could get through Passport control. I had been wondering if the French were going to set up the Passport control area to fast track those vaccinated compared to nonvaccinated. It sounds like - just show your CDC card, passport and you pass through quickly. I was concerned non-EU visitors might spend hours in the airport trying to get through this area if they required the non-vaccinated to complete documents there and how familiar they are with the CDC card.
