Chantilly to Senlis by bike

I’ve read some topics on Chantilly here but my friend and I are planning on going to Chantilly on Wednesday the 31st renting bikes.. We will bike the 5 miles to Senlis spend a few hours then bike back to tour the château before returning to Paris.

Has anyone done this before? It looks like an easy bike ride. We will not be taking a tour just wandering around by ourselves.

Can anyone recommend a favorite restaurant in either city? Has anyone been to Senlis? I’d really like to see the old Roman theater and what’s left of the wall.

Everything I look up on Chantilly is of the Chateau. Is the town at self worth a look around?

Thank you all!!

When I was at Chantilly there was a wonderful restaurant in the Chatue kitchen. That was many years ago so I don't know if it is still in operation. I have very good memories of day, using a map to find the way back to the train station, stepping off the curb by mistake, and an older lady stopping her car and offering us a ride to the train staion. I'm sure you will enjoy your visit.

Been to the chateau of Chantilly, not the town. Only place we found to eat was the café/cafeteria at the chateau which was very good. I wasn’t wowed by the chateau or the grounds.
Spent a full day in Senlis last Oct (2021). We LOVED it. We were there on a weekday and could only find one café to get food, it was fine.
Although we often rent bikes in France, haven’t ridden to Senlis. Took a bus and road was flat and level for 10+ mi.
Senlis is worth a whole day, especially if you enjoy walking throughout the town, including the residential streets (they were beyond charming), like we do.

The bike ride is easy, provided that you use the minor road south of D924 and not D924 itself (which has traffic and is not very wide). The route is more or less signposted, but have a map handy (phone will do).

Have driven the D924 between Chantilly and Senlis several times and can be busy, so agree with the southern route. Nevertheless worth doing to my opinion is following the D924 in Chantilly itself and passing the château at the north side for the lovely view of it. You can bike further to the first roundebout and follow the D138E for some 500m to the southern route to Senlis. The speed limit of that part of the D924 is 50 km/h, but do this if you think it feels safe.
