We're planning to take the train from Paris to Reims for the day only. We'd like to tour DP or Moet and others. Any suggestions on tours that pick you up in Reims, take you to several caves and back? Majority of tours I'm finding pick you up in Paris. I'd like to have our own time in Reims either before or after the tour so we're not rushed back to Paris. Thanks in advance!
Most of the cave tours are in Reims and are easy to get to using the tram and/or walking. Take an early train from Paris. Go to the cathedral (walk or tram) and stop in first at the TI there. (There's a TI at the train station, but it opens later and may still be closed when you arrive.) They'll give you a map of the town and help you book tours (some caves are walk-in, some need to be booked). Then you'll have time to sightsee between tours. I toured Tattinger and Martel. It's a 5-minute walk from one to the other. The Saint Remi Basilica is also a short walk away and well worth seeing. You can also get champagne by the glass at cafes and restaurants in town.
And good news, Moët reopens for tours as of October 1! (in Epernay, not in Reims).
For VC you must book ahead of time. On a nice day you can walk from the train station, or bus or cab to the Champaign houses. We enjoyed walking twice, as it gives you time to enjoy the area around the Cathedral when you get in early. Check out Le Parc at Les Crayeres for lunch (book ahead), which is located near, Taittinger, Pommery and VC. Of the 3, I enjoyed the tours at Pommery and VC the most.
Saint Remi Basilique is very interesting to tour as is the Cathedral. Enjoy dinner near the train station before you return.
