Champagne Tour

We are heading to Paris shortly and will be taking a day trip to Eperney. My husband would like to tour Moet et Chandon and there are several tours available ranging from 26 to 120 euro. We are certainly no experts on champagne but hubby would like to sample and take at least tour the cellars. Is it worth the extra money to tour the vineyard? Is there another champagne house that you would recommend.

Thanks for the help.

hey hey d.balinski
took the train to reims from paris, bought train tickets day before at one of their stores near apartment. we did a private tour of the town and then out into the countryside with a stop at a private vineyard/winery through small alley roads, with photo op stops and walking through the grapevines. coming back by the champagne caves/houses were so crowded. we didn't stop since it would be a long wait. we wanted to taste local champagnes, not what we can buy here. it's your vacation and his wants. we did stop at cafe du palais at 14 place myron herrick 51100. had a flight with tastes of the local champagnes and appetizers and enjoyed out time before getting back to train.

couple tours they do around area and small towns
take a taxi from train station to avenue de champagne, walk down the avenue with gorgeous mansion/houses, some are open for tasting. a boulangerie and cafe , not much else. see if train goes back to paris from epernay or cab to reims station.
hope you have a great time

Princess Pupule,
Thank you for the suggestion. The tuk-tuk looks really interesting and would give us access to a small vineyard which we both agree would preferable to standing in long lines at one of the bigger houses. Great suggestion.

Mark,
We are hoping to go to Reims as well, mainly to see the cathedral which looks magnificent. Thanks for sending the blogger info - will check it out. Enjoy your trip to Paris!

If you’re going to Reims, I would recommend the
Pommery House of Champagne. Set in an ornate 1836 mansion on a beautiful estate, it was Madame Pommery who originally began champagne production in the 19th century. The 60-minute tour with tasting is €35. Pommery also has a champagne bar where you can sample a wide variety of their vintages.
