Champ-Elysee area/Sat Sun in late September

Is there a day of the week that is best to visit and what are the things not to be missed?

The Champs-Élysées is just a street. Albeit a lovely wide tree lined boulevard. It runs from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde and the start of the Tuilleries. It is best known for the endless stores ( both average chains to high end designers), restaurants and hotels. Closer to Place de la Concorde are the Grand and Petit Palais. Check the official websites for info on entry to the Arc and the 2 Palaces, for exhibits and events. The Jardin des Champs- Élysées is roughly opposite the 2 palaces.

At Clemenceau metro is the street that takes you across the bridge Pont Alexandre -- the bridge is not to be missed -- best after dark when you have a nice view on the hour of the ET sparkling for 5 minutes. The Petit Palais which is a free museum and has a lovely garden where you can sit and have lunch is near the entry to the street and so is the Grand Palais which is recently renovated and the site of special exhibitions. It has a glass roof. Both are impressive sights.

There isn't much else of interest until you reach the Arc de Triomphe.

To me, the thing that should be missed is the Champs-Élysées. I'll bet at one point it was a special place. But these days it is just a street lined with international chain stores who feel they need a "presence" on this street, and tourists who feel they must do the same. There are a hundred other streets I would rather walk down. I'll offer up just one of many: Rue Montorgueil. But you do you.
