chamonix to Italy - worth it?

We will be spending a few days in chamonix and thought it would be cool to drive through the tunnel in the alps to italy for dinner. I hear it is somewhat pricey (57 euros r/t) - has anyone done this? do you think its worth it? can anyone recommend a place to eat on the italian side?

thanks

I recommend to go to Turin (Italy). It's quite a lovely town. Just 2 hours away from Chamonix. Plenty of stuff to do there. If you want something closer like an hour away through the Mont blanc tunnel then it's Courmayeur (Italy). the elegant Italian town of Courmayeur has a beautiful old centre with wonderful shops – and most importantly, an abundance of brilliant Italian restaurants. The trip is worth it.

reg,

You can also travel to Italy via the Panoramic Mont Blanc cable cars to Pointe Helbronner and then down to Courmayeur. Those cable cars are not always operating so you'll have to check the schedules.

The Panoramic cars are accessed from the Aguille du Midi, which is a large structure on top of Mont Blanc. One important point to mention is that if you have any issues with altitude, this may not be a good choice. The Aguille du Midi is at about 12K feet.
