Chamonix to Amboise/Blois or Chamonix to Paris

Hi Everyone,

We are going to Lyon for the World Cup. After the championship game, we’re driving to Chamonix and staying for 2 nights. After Chamonix, we want to visit Paris, the Loire and Normandy. I’m using the My Way Tour as a guide. We’ll have time to spend 2 nights somewhere in the Loire;2 nights in Bayeaux; and 4 nights in Paris.

My question is in what order should we do things when we’re finished in Chamonix. Should we keep the rental car and make the long drive across the country to the Loire, then Normandy (drop the car off there) and then take the train to Paris and end there. Or, should we go Chamonix to Paris and use Paris as a home base?

We are flying home out of CDG.

Thanks for your recommendations and suggestions.

I need to add that we would like to go to all 3, even though it’s a lot. We probably won’t ever get back to France. It’s a once in a lifetime trip.

Rick covers them in his My Way Tour so we’re going to see the same places. I understand that we could spend several days in every one of these places, but, we don’t have the luxury of time to do that.

We followed one of Rick's itineraries for a few days, at about 2/3 speed--3 days to his 2.

It was great but it left us pretty tired. We needed a recovery day.

I'm just warning you. You are starting off with a day long trip that is going to leave you a bit pooped the next day, then an athletic itinerary that will not let up until Paris (where there is lots to see and do).

It's a long way to travel for a day in the Loire and a day in Normandy.

You may not have crossed the line of "this is too much," but you are at least on it.

Here is a thought experiment for you: if you left off one of these destinations (including the logistical outlier, Chamonix), what is the itinerary like? Is the trip better?
