Hi,
I am trying to do some initial research to decide where to visit this summer on a layover. Important to note, I may or may not be traveling solo as my husband and I will be flying through Paris on our way home from another destination. He may continue home but I am thinking of staying in France for a week of so by myself. I have been to Paris twice before so don't want to spend a lot of time there. I've been looking at visiting Chamonix but the summer crowds look daunting. I've also been considering Loumarin as it sounds like a more quiet summer alternative but I've just started my research. If I don't have my husband or daughter with me (my daughter may fly up to meet me) I don't want to rent a car and drive solo but I won't know her plans until we are closer to July. Any thoughts?
Sorry about the typo in July
Getting to Chamonix from Paris is probably 4-5 hours via train to Geneva and
train or shuttle from there.
The summer crowds are non-trivial but not impossible. The scenery is breathtaking.
It probably depends on your interests.
Lourmarin without a car is a bit limiting, and the summer heat is not conducive to long walks between villages / long bus waits.
Chamonix is a better bet IMO.
Forgot about that heat. Very good point although Chamonix feels like a hike. May start looking at Colmar instead.
