Chamonix in late April or mid May?

We are busy planning our Euro trip (4 adults age 30 - 35). We were in Chamonix this year (2018) from 26 - 29 May and the only lift open was the one to Mer de Glace. The idea of the visit to Chamonix was to go up Aiguille Du Midi but that was under maintenance during our stay (not sure if it was just bad luck or a trend?). Well we promised ourselves to go back. We thought about 22-26 April 2019. Will Aiguille Du Midi be open then? Any suggestions / tips? Is this a good time to go?

I went mid-September and it was ideal. If it's cloudy, you might as well not go because you can't see anything. It can be cloudy anytime, sometimes are better than others. It's always best to give yourself a window of days to go up to work around weather. I'd be ready for snow in April.
