Chamonix Hotel Recommendations

I am looking for a hotel recommendation for a short (3 night) stay in Chamonix in September for a mother and grown son traveling together. Thanks!

We liked Hotel L'Aarve in Chamonix. The location is great and our room had a balcony that overlooked the river.

I also stayed in Hotel L'Aarve while on the RS Best of Switzerland. That little lawn in the back abutting the river is very cool. You can just sit or take a glass of wine, and most of all, watch the river. Folks come down on rubber rafts and sometimes individual flotation devices. The location is great.

I stayed at the Hotel L'Aarve in May on the Eastern France tour and it was very nice.

Like all the others above, we stayed at the Hotel L'Arve. It is delightful and the staff is truly helpful. Originally I had booked into the Prieure or something like that and though I had a confirmed reservation I was notified a week before we were to stay that they were cancelling our reservations due to overbooking. I was livid but quickly looked around and was lucky enough to find L'Arve. We've now been there 3 more times since. It's that good.

I’m clearly in the minority here, but didn’t care for Hotel de L’Arve, but it was 13 yrs ago and might be updated and cleaner by now. It was very dark everywhere inside, not much natural light which bothers me.
We stayed at Hotel Morgan on a subsequent trip and absolutely loved it.
Sparkling clean, high quality everything including beds, great central location and great views. We had a room with a balcony which we enjoyed.

We stayed at the Pointe Isabella and it was nice and moderately priced.

Susan, Hotel L'Aarve must have done some updating. My room was all new and very modern with a nice balcony looking out on the river. This was the only bedroom I saw, but the common spaces looked newish as well. They did have wood paneling on the bedroom walls, but it did not seem old or dated to me.

Deb, sounds much better! Was dark everywhere with way too much dated wood-panelling, was dusty, not very clean, old beds and bedding, and old carpeting when we were there. Was depressing actually.
