Chamonix France during Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

We will be in Chamonix France during Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc competition and city is expecting it to be busiest time of the year. Any recommendations for coffee, breakfast and dinner establishments is appreciated. We have an apt for our six night stay so we will be able to take out and grocery shop. Any advice is greatly appreciated. We are excited about this world class sporting competition but want to be prepared.

My recommendations are on your other post here.

BTW, the 2 restaurants (MBC & Le Caveau) were recommended by our Chamexpress shuttle driver who lives in the area.

Happy anniversary Sally!

It is busy! Have been there a couple of times for the event, and there are certainly lots of people around. I think it would be quite entertaining to watch the start/finish of some of the races even if you're not involved. There are (I think) five separate events of varying duration, staggered throughout a whole week, so there's almost always something happening. An area in the middle of town is blocked off for the start/finish, and at the time the start of the UTMB itself, several blocks are filled with runners and spectators.
Grocery shopping is easy in the middle of town (Super U, but also specialty stores for cheese, chocolate, etc). We enjoyed taking the train/cable car up to Montenvers. And I'll put in a plug for the Parc du Merlet, a wildlife park in Les Houches that makes for a pleasant walk.
