Are advance tickets to the Aiguille du Midi recommended?

Advance tickets are definitely recommended, mainly because you will most likely
need a time reservation to go up the gondola (you don't say when you are going, but
summer is booking up already).
If you have a reserved time to do the AdM, you can most likely do AdM and
Mer de Glace in one day. It's maybe a 15 minute walk between the two. It
depends on how much time you want to spend up top and whether you take
the Panoramique over to Italy.
