We are planning to spend two nights in Chamonix in April but were concerned that there might not be anything open. Would it be better to go in May? We are quite flexible. Also, where is the best reasonable place to stay? We will not have a car.

My daughter and I were in Chamonix at the end of May (2016) and enjoyed our stay at Hotel L’Arve
The highlight of our visit was going up to the Aiguille du Midi where we were absolutely astonished by Mont Blanc among the magnificent alps.

I highly recommend you become familiar with the symptoms associated with altitude sickness prior to going up to the Aiguille du Midi.

Don't go in April if you want to do any mountain excursions the lifts will not be running until May.
