Do chambre d'hotes have signs out front identifying them as such as is the case in Ireland where ITB (Irish Tourist Board) signs are ubiquitous, making it easy to arrive in a town and start knocking on doors? I didn't notice any in a perusal of a French guesthouse website.

I've perused all four of those websites in the past. The first is only in French, useful up to a point; the second one generates absolutely zero results across the board (save for a few "featured" properties) no matter the date, year, location, number of nights or guests or type of accommodation. It appears not to have been updated or even operational for five years now.
On bicycle trips, which is how we always travel abroad, making advanced daily reservations is impractical and does not allow for the flexibility inherent in cycle touring. First and last night reservations are all we need.
But good to know that we can look for identifying signs out front! Merci!
