I'll be in Paris for one or two nights each in late July and mid-August, perhaps in the 1st or 7th arrondissement.
Which moderately-priced chambre d'hotes or small hotels would you recommend from your experiences there - or in other arrondissements? It must be roomy enough to keep my bicycle indoors with me and ideally have a secure space to store my bike box for the three weeks I'll be on the road.

They list bike friendly hotels in Paris. One of the hotels listed in the first link, the Hotel Solar, would probably be great for you but it is in the 14th arrondissement. It's just an educated guess on my part but limiting yourself to the 1st and 7th arrondissements is going to severely limit your options.
Thanks for the good leads, folks! Good to know there are bike-friendly accommodations to be found. By "moderately-priced" I'm thinking around 100 Euros or less.
