CDG vs ORY

Hi,
We're planning to fly from Paris to Florence in early September.
I see direct flights from both CDG and Orly. I have travelled through CDG a few times, but never Orly.
Is there anything I should be aware of before I purchase the tickets?
Trying to have appropriate expectations.
thank you!

Just realized that I should have posted this question in the Transportation forum - apologies.
Corrected airport code

Orly is smaller but you probably already know that. It is closer to Paris than CDG. The taxi fares are lower than the fares for CDG but the mass transit connections are not quite as seamless as they are for CDG.

I always use ORY over CDG given the opportunity.

ORY is not as congested, and it is much closer to Paris, making it generally easier, faster, and cheaper to reach.

Just a note: ORL is the identifier for Orlando Executive airport.

Orly 100%! As an added bonus, Orly has not been affected by the luggage handling difficulties that plagued CDG recently.

We always choose Orly when we can do so. Alas. coming from Chicago that is not a choice for a direct flight. Orly is faster coming and going and closer to Paris. The only down side is that public transport is cumbersome for Orly compared to CDG, but then the cab fare is much less.

Thank you for the information.

Tocard, thank you for the clarification (ORY). I used to think I had the airport codes down.

I was Googling this recently, Orly sounds like a nice little airport. There just seems to be some complexity with getting into and out of via mass transit.

I am not sure what complexity this might be. Consider the options:

  1. Tramway 7 to Métro 7 (or anywhere in Paris), two tickets t+ or 2.98€/3.80€.

  2. Orlybus, 8.50/9.50€

  3. OrlyVal to RER B, 12.80€

  4. RER C, 5€

  5. Taxis for the Right/Left Banks at 37€/32€ respectively.

isn't there a hokey-pokey you have to do at the airport to get to a train?

I think that people say the trip from or to Orly is more complicated because one must take the OrlyVal to connect to the RER B. In addition, I once had a conversation with someone who missed getting off at the Antony stop on the RER B because he thought it would be the end of the line or there would be more obvious that it was the airport stop -- that's a lack of research but it does make it a tiny bit more complicated to take the RER B to Orly because you can't just sit on the train and get off at the last stop like you can if going to CDG.

Has anyone here ever arrived CDG at terminal 1? How did you get to the RER B?

I understand how complex those train changes can be, which is why I always take a taxi from ORY to Paris for about half the price as a taxi from CDG and taking almost half the time.
