We have booked a flight on Lufthansa for next year that leaves Chicago, stops in Munich and lands at our destination of CDG. We have about 2.5 hours layover in Munich. My question is - where do we go through passport control? In Munich on our layover, in Paris upon arrival at our destination, or both?
Immigration takes place where you enter the Schengen zone i.e. Munich.
If you have checked luggage you collect that in Paris and go through customs which is a walk through unless you are declaring any goods.
Is it really just stopping in Munich on the way to Paris (very unlikely), or do you change planes in Munich (almost 100%)? You will be herded off the plane after you land in Munich, go through passport control and get your passport stamped as entering the Schengen zone. Then you will find your way to your gate for the flight to Paris. In Paris, you just get off the plane, go to the luggage carousel and get your bags, then walk out the "Nothing to Declare" door (that's customs) into the general airport.
Thank you!
Be prepared to spend some time in the Munich airport going through a security check of carry-on items for the second flight. 2.5 hours should be sufficient for your transfer.
