We're flying from Venice through CDG to Atlanta and then on to PDX with a 2 hour layover in CDG. What's the process at CDG and hopefully 2 hours is enough time?
PDX = Portland International Airport, USA (I had to look it up).
Venice to Paris Charles de Gaulle is an intra-Schengen flight, no immigration/passport control (though you will have to show your passport to the airline as ID.
This means you go through passport control to exit the Schengen Area in Charles de Gaulle airport.
So once we get through this first process then to get to our gate for the next leg does not require anything more? We just transfer gates as we do in the US?
Passports is part of the departure process, not arrivals.

As you are arriving on an intra-Schengen flight you will arrive directly into the public area of terminal 2F.
You then need to transfer to 2E
Go through exit passport control.
Go through security
Find your gate, or wait if not yet posted.

Assuming you will be a connecting passenger (using a single PNR), look for signs for those connecting (correspondance in French). There should be an expedited passport control point for those connecting. You do not want to exit the sterile area and pass through the baggage claim exits as coming back through security and passport control with originating passengers can easily consume your entire 2 hours ground time.
If you are not clear on where you should go, be sure to ask the ground staff as you do not want to miss your connecting flight.
There will often be some sort of secondary security at the gate for flights going to the US. At Zurich, they "randomly" select passengers for private screening. I went through this once, and the security officer's attitude seemed to be "I know this is a huge waste of your time and mine, but it keeps your government happy."
At Munich on a tight connection, although they had metal detectors at the gate, since the flight was in final boarding, they just waved us through.
personally 2 hours would be too short for my comfort zone. Now I have made it in under 2 but at least once it was 2 1/2 just to clear passport control, but we were going from SEA to CDG to Florence when it took so long.
We just came back from a trip from Florence where we had to catch a connecting flight at CDG. We only had 1 hour 5 minutes between flights. We made it, but barely. An airline agent gave us some great advise to make sure our seats on our flight from Florence were towards the front of the plane. It makes a great deal of difference when you're trying to get off the plane in a hurry. The plane landed on the tarmac and we were shuttled to the gate which took time that we didn't count on.
Also, the passport check area was very crowded and took a lot of time. I believe everyone was in the same situation trying to catch a connecting flight that was boarding in a few minutes and there were a hundred people ahead in line.
CDG is a very big airport. It's beautiful, but it's very big. Luckily, we were wearing our running shoes and packed light.
Bon Voyage!!
