CDG to Latin Quarter via Uber

We will be traveling to Paris in December with our 2 teenagers. There will be 4 of us so I was considering Uber, a taxi or shuttle service to the Latin Quarter area rather than the RER B. I've done the RER many times but with 4 of us it seems it might just be easier and not that much more to use something else.

Has anyone used Uber from CDG? I have used Uber in Paris before and it was fantastic (didn't feel like schlepping bags down into the Metro) to get from where we were staying to train station.

Thanks!

An Official Parisien Taxi, such as Taxi's Blue or Taxis G7, from the official taxi rank at CDG, is the simplest way. Ignore drivers out of their cars looking for business, just get in the official line and you'll get an official taxi that's quite likely to be up to snuff on regulations, insurance, etc. Taxi's work quite well in Paris.

Lorri, haven't used UBER in Paris yet, but plan on doing so next spring from CDG to Ile Saint-Louis. I have already downloaded the App. It offers a selection of the car, black sedan or van. Usually a 6 min. wait or less. A poster a while back stated they used UBER throughout their Paris trip & enjoyed the service.
Enjoy your trip.

If you haven't, you should read about Uber in Paris. I suggest taking the train. High quality transit is part of the European experience. Have the teenagers do the route planning and lead the way.

4 people on the RER will run 40 euro, so 65 to 70 euro for a taxi wouldn't be too bad if they have enough room for all of you and the luggage. There are also car/driver services. I am wondering when Paris will come down on Uber with the iron fist. There have already been a few taxi strikes on this issue.

We followed Rick's Paris guidebook advice and booked a ride with Paris Webservices. It was wonderful. Our driver was very courteous, knowledgeable, and fluent in English, the car was nice and clean, and we appreciated the worry-free aspect of knowing the driver would wait in case our flight was delayed.

Four people is worth taking a taxi. Live like a local and get in the taxi line. It moves fast and taxi drivers are highly regulated in France. No way I'd take Uber because the regular Uber is illegal. Only a special Uber with special cars is allowed.

Yes, I'm familiar with Uber in Paris. My understanding is that it is only UberPop that is illegal.

My kids have traveled and they know how to use the trains. It isn't our first time.

I really was hoping someone that had used Uber from CDG would give some feedback.

Regular Uber is NOT illegal in Paris. UberPop (which confusingly is NOT what UberPOP is in the States) is illegal in Paris and has been shut down and doesn't exist any more. UberPop is the one where you or I could decide to use our car to pick up people to earn a few extra bucks each month.

Regular Uber is legal and works just fine. UberX is the regular one and BlackCar is the fancier one. UberX is just fine, no reason to spend the extra money for BlackCar.

Sorry Lorri but I've not taken Uber from the airport into the city yet, just around town.

I agree though with four people it's silly to pay for the RER when for so little per person extra you will get a taxi or Uber door-to-door. It just doesn't make economic sense to go through the pain of the RER when you have that many people (unless of course there's a strike or some other problem literally blocking the roads -- like the TAXI DRIVERS protesting Uber!!!).

Lorri -- I used Uber yesterday from the airport. They have fixed rates to/from Paris (scroll down the page). 50€ to/from Paris/CDG to the Rive Gauche, where you're staying. Scroll down on the page to see the rates:

It worked pretty well - I opened my Uber app while still in the terminal and could see that there were plenty of Ubers around. I knew that they would NOT be at the taxi stand, so I was curious about how it would work. In fact, it turns out that the software that the drivers are using pinpoints pretty much EXACTLY where you are at the airport (b/c CDG is so big, this is important, the terminals can be quite far flung). For me of course it worked pretty easily, as the guy called me and we talked about which entrance porte/gate to meet at (all the entrances/exits at the airport are numbered in order to facilitate this). But he said that if it were a non-French-speaking client, they would send a text. Just remember that it will basically say "Porte 8" or similar and that means the driver will meet you outside Door #8.

He handled all my (very heavy) bags with aplomb (no judgment people, I was returning to Paris from my once-yearly trip to the States, a girl has to bring in her peanut butter somehow!! hahaha). For me the 45€ (the cost to the right bank, where I live) was probably a little MORE than what a taxi would have cost on Sunday morning, but to think that's all I would pay even if I were coming in during a rush hour Monday, now that would REALLY be worth it.

Of course, your phone has to be able to accept international texts in order to get the driver/license plate information, so make sure that you're set up for that.

The one thing I don't know is how you would request a larger vehicle. It's pretty easy when you arrive at the taxi stand -- basically you'll wait until an appropriately-sized vehicle comes, and your family will get in that. But a family of 4 with luggage might have had difficulty fitting in the sedan I had yesterday.

if you have any other questions, let me know!

The Uber app. below allows you the chance to select, uberPOOL (Carpool), uberX (small car), Black Car (higher end car) & Van. So you only need to slide the tab on the bottom to which vehicle you want after selection your location (CDG), then select your Pickup Location (Hilton, Terminal 1 - 3 as well as some doors or Porte). Plan on using myself next May.

I used the Uber app just fine with the hotel wifi. We took two rides while there last month. One was to CDG from the 15th. We didn't have any problems on either trip and I like paying through my Paypal as well as the other features, like picture of the driver, license plate info, etc.
