What 12 hours are you in Paris.?

Your actual usable time will be less due to dealing with passport control on arrival and departure, plus time to deal with any checked bags.

You could book a room at the airport for day use. Usually from 9am to 6pm ish for around $100usd. For example, the Hilton and the Novotel Tremblay are just a few minutes walk to the free CDGval shuttle to the terminals as well as the RER station for the train to Paris.

There are other hotels that offer day use. Some, like Hilton can be booked directly on the Hilton website. Others can be booked through sites like dayuse.com or hotelsbyday.com.

If you plan to go into Paris you may only need to store baggage and then retrieve it/
hit the lounge on the way out. Kind of depends on the time of day.

I would not make any non-refundable plans until you get a lot closer to date of travel.
An airline schedule change would play havoc with your plans, and the chances of one
are pretty large 11 months out.

Hotels may have sales between now and then, and with the amount of time you have
(as of now), you could get a room at an off-site airport hotel for probably a lot less.

"plus time to deal with any checked bags" I thought the luggage is checked all the way thru, we would just have our packs from carry on ( we are required to use co duffle for a safari, too big to carry on)

My subjective interpretation of your wording was that it would be 2 separately booked flights. Your subsequent post seems to indicate it is a single booking.

On a single booking the normal expectation would be for the airline to handle checked bags, but with a 12 hour interval between flights that may or my not be true. Best to check with the airline

We once stayed overnight at the IBIS at T3 having driven from the Netherlands that day. It was perfectly fine for one night but not somewhere I'd stay for longer. But it is inexpensive and there's the free shuttle train to or from whichever terminal you need.
