We will be spending a night at CDG following our Normandy/Loire travels. Would love to hear your comments on the Sheraton, the Hilton, the Marriott and the Ibis...all of which are on the free tram service at CDG. We will be leaving the next morning on the TGV headed to Avignon which seems to be at near Terminal 2E. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I’ve stayed at the Hilton and the Sheraton. Personally, the Sheraton has a great location and they are pretty aware of it. The place desperately needs to be cleaned up and remodeled, and the staff is gracious enough to let you stay there, but don’t expect much else
the Hilton I really liked. The room was in good shape.
The Sheraton for convience. It’s right next to the TGV station in Terminal 2. Have a wonderful trip. Francine
I had a similar decision about staying at CDG for a 9:00 am flight. I ended up at the Moxy (Marriott). Not fancy, but good for a night's sleep and a much cheaper option than the larger hotels (especially compared to the Sheraton).
Short walk from the CDGVAL stop. I arrived late evening, so I did not need a restaurant. But they do have a bar ;-)
I stayed at the Ibis Budget hotel last October. The room was simple, modern and clean. There was a Starbucks in lobby with sandwiches so I didn't wait for the dining room to open. Check in and out were easy and getting to my gate in morning was not a problem. I came in from the Avignon TGV station. The trains are at the bottom level. There were no announcements or a schedule showing next station so pay attention when you think you are getting near to Avignon. I tracked my location on google maps.
I have stayed at the Hilton and several times at the Novotel. We hated the Hilton -- the room was fine of course, but the restaurant gave us the worst meal we have had in Europe and with a snotty attitude. I expected it to be expensive which it was, but I didn't expect it to be dried out and virtually inedible. This was many years ago, but we have never stayed at a HIlton since.
The Novotel is relatively inexpensive, has an good motel breakfast with plenty of choices and protein and of course is both on the RER B line to head into Paris or the CDGVAL to go to the terminal in the morning. We now get dinner in Paris if staying at the airport and then take the RERB to the hotel.
The Sheraton looks very convenient but it is also much more expensive.
Our first experience at the Hilton in 2011 was similar to Janet’s. However, we stayed there this past May had a very nice experience. They had an exceptional buffet breakfast that was part of our room rate. My husband is a Hilton Honors member, so that’s a factor.
Take a look at this Courtyard by Marriott.
We are going to try it in October. It’s newer and offers a dining room as well as food options in their bar, unusual for a Courtyard.
Last year we spent two nights in the full service Marriott at CDG having stayed there in 2013. We felt it was over priced, limited value for price paid. Offering a very limited room service menu. My personal opinion is many hotels continue to eliminate or scale back on their room service as a hold over excuse from Covid. Room service is a loss leader for hotels and I think they are just forcing the bottom line.
Their breakfast buffet was huge but so sad. It smelled bad. Eggs were not fresh, pastries looked like frozen, re-heated type. Hostess was not warm and inviting. The rate was twice what we are paying for the Courtyard this year.
We either stay at Hilton or the Accor properties. (IBIS, Pullman etc). The Hilton was pretty ragged especially food service ( but I complained and cost of meal was refunded!) but there is new mgt and a real positive attitude. Accor properties near the shuttle train stop run from basic to luxury.
Sheraton convenience is not worth the cost. There are multiple choices to stay overnight at CDG….we just picked a few favorites. Have been transiting Paris CDG off and on since 2012.
