CDG car rental

My family and I are travelling to France this summer and need to rent and return a mid-sized car at CDG. I am seeing so many conflicting reviews of all of the rental companies and am hesitant to use any of them. I would appreciate any feedback from people who have rented cars recently at CDG. Thank you!

you should be more specific about your concerns, which are probably not actually CDG related

As many will note AutoEurope does a good service, I have used them multiple times. Most recently (last month) used Sixt at CDG with generally good satisfaction. As noted by many make sure you know what your plans are about full insurance coverage for the vehicle, and take MULTIPLE detailed photographs of the vehicle before leaving the rental facility. Also make sure your mapping device (Android or Apple) is logged in and active before you attempt to leave the airport. Make your reservation early and then recheck about 10 days before departure. My charges at SIxt went DOWN about 40% at my recheck.

Thank you, John! When looking at reviews of the rental car companies' CDG locations, I'm finding that most have averages under 2 stars (out of 5), and there are so many horror stories of long waits, extra charges, faulty cars, etc. I realize that many of the people who will write reviews are those who had bad experiences, so it's helpful to hear about good experiences.

Do you generally find that it is better to go through AutoEurope vs. directly through a specific rental company?

TD,
We always check Autoeurope to find our car, and arrange rental through them when we find what we want. The only time we didn't is because our son had a better deal through his work account. It was still a major rental company (Avis), just cheaper with his company discount. We have only picked up our car at CDG twice, both times when just going to a relative's home in the Paris suburbs. I wouldn't get my car at CDG if I intended to drive very far that day, as a long flight from the US with little sleep, and possible jet lag, keeps us from feeling comfortable driving for more than an hour.
I would suggest you don't attempt a long drive from CDG after an overnight and/or long flight, especially if you are unfamiliar with driving in France.
Re car rental company problems...we have been satisfied with all the companies we have rented from...Hertz, Avis, Europcar and Budget. The only thing we had was a long wait to get our car at CDG in 2017. They were just busy and it took us an hour to get to the car itself after the paperwork, etc. When renting in Marseille or Bordeaux at the train stations or at the Marseille airport, it went more quickly. Likewise, returning the car. Finding the drop off location is kind of confusing at CDG...watching your driving while looking for the signs for drop-off. Not fun, but not impossible.
Just to stick my nose in with advice...if you are coming off a long flight, I strongly suggest you don't try to drive very far that day. Perhaps you might want to get the car the next day, if that fits with your plans.
Bonne chance!

Thank you, Judy! I appreciate all of the advice! Day 1, we are planning on driving about 1-1.5 hours to get outside of Paris and partially to our destination. I totally agree about not doing too much immediately after a long flight.
