We have a flight from the US to CDG scheduled to land at 7:45am on a weekday. How long of a line should we expect at immigration? If I understand correctly, as US passport holders we can use egates and wait times heavily depend on time of day (as well as luck).
Are you trying to figure out times so you can book a timed entry or for an onward train?
What time of year is your trip?
Asking because in the past I’ve been through in between 15 minutes and an hour! Sometimes the egates work.
This may be unusual, we just arrived Sept. 26, Delta, @ 7:55, luggage was checked and we were done in 45 minutes, the walk being the longest. Now, for the first time we flew "premium setting" and at all checks we had a separate line which was very short. This was a completely renovated airport from 4 years ago. At CDG you do not pick up your luggage until after passport control so it does not slow you down to check your luggage. We then had to wait 3 hours for our TVG (or pay over $200) as I had allowed 3.5 hours for the transfer. Good luck!
We have arrived twice in this year. Last spring it took us two hours to get through immigration -- it was a nightmare with all Americans, Canadians funneled through ONE automatic gate -- which of course no one could use smoothly since this is new. There were at least 8 or 9 gates sitting there unused and everyone had to wait to limp through this one gate.
This fall, we had one plane ahead of and so immigration took about 40 minutes.
We have had it be as short as 15 minutes when flying business and using priority lines.
Trip is in early December.
Does CDG still have priority lines? I had thought they eliminated them when they introduced the egates - are the egates all open and in use now?
"Does CDG still have priority lines?"
The last time I went thru Immigration as a Paris arrival (as opposed to a transit) the Priority lanes AND the bathroom access was blocked off with temporary barriers. Really, you just don't know what the situation is going to be until you get there. This was in Terminal 2E, arriving on a Delta flight from Seattle, after Covid. That was the time that the egates were not functioning and all of us who had been directed to them were directed back to merge back in with lines to the Immigration kiosks.
Honestly, I don't really count on anything being the same when I go thru there.
I flew to Spain from CDG last month and there were priority lines in Terminal 2F.
I remember the egates from 4 years ago and yes, there were lots of problems. This priority line had to do with the price of our tickets as it was so checking in in Boston. I also thought perhaps because Delta and Air France were partners such a priority line existed, but it was directly connected to our ticket.
This past August eGates were open, except for the U.S. & Canada. We all went through the same line, no flight was in front of us and it went smoothly and around 15 min. The walk from the plane to Immigration seemed longer than processing through. I've lucked out with my 5 trips processing into CDG over the last 9 years, nothing over 20 minutes. Of course, I just jinxed myself for my return trip. :(
We fly through CDG a few times a year from Seattle--typically landing at 7:45-ish--and immigration has been different each time. Sometimes the egates are open, sometimes the lines are short, sometimes the lines are long...well, you get my drift. As others have said, it can take me 15 mins or 1.5+ hrs. I just see what my options are when I arrive. And, if you land at 2E M (the Seattle flight arrives at 2E K, L or M), then you take the shuttle bus to the 2E terminal, which adds time. If you are trying to make a train or connection, give yourself at least 2 hrs.
Our issue is whether to arrange for a meet & greet service, which would essentially allow us to skip lines on arrival and on departure. Worth it to us to avoid standing in line for over an hour and not at all worth it to avoid a 15 minute line.
Sounds like there's no good way to decide in advance.
US passport holders were first allowed to use the e-gates 31 December 2020.
Having flown into Paris airport about three times in the past year twice it was a 10 minute walk and once it was about half an hour.
Oh and two of the three times I was in business class, and I did not see a priority line
