CDG airport hotels

We are looking for recommendations for hotels near Roissy Charles de Gaulle.....most likely Roissy en France is the most practical in terms of traffic impact getting to the airport before the flight. We have stayed in several but many of the hotels are sterile and have terrible air quality.

My friend stayed at the Sheraton in CDG this summer and said it was a fantastic for the night before an early flight. I looked back and found this thread about this very thing and I had explained more of what she’d told me: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/sheraton-cdg-vs-auberge-du-jeu-de-paume-for-one-night I have included the thread if it is helpful overall, but here is what I wrote:

MY BFF just returned from 2 weeks in France, flying out of CDG. They stayed at the Sheraton on their last night. I texted her and asked about her experience. Here is her reply:
Upon checkin they ask if you want this deal which includes the “club” room (I think that’s what they call it) and breakfast - I’m thinking it was an extra maybe €30. The club room had really great small plate items - hot and cold, cheese platters, etc. and free wine and beer so we pretty much chowed down dinner there and a little later on went to the dining room and split something - fish sticks or something like that... way over priced and not enough for splitting had we eaten all that good stuff upstairs earlier. For us it was fine. The breakfast buffet was excellent. You could get omelettes cooked and eggs Benedict - a really great deal because it alone, without what we had done upstairs the night before would have been the cost of what we paid for the “Deal” when we checked in. Well worth it. In that terminal there are not many dinner choices and you don’t want to go in and out of security at that point so from what I can recall after walking around following dinner, there wasn’t much available in the line of a good restaurant with a nice meal. Like I said the appetizer stuff upstairs in the club room was really, really good! Free wine and beer too. The rooms at the Sheraton are so beautiful and comfortable. We were so glad we went that route after a long travel day and having to catch a flight the next morning.

Don't stay NEAR the airport but AT the airport -- there are several hotels with immediate access to the continuous transport between the terminals right on the airport campus. We have stayed at the Novotel which is right above and RER B stop and also at the Hilton. There is a Sheraton connected to Terminal 2 and several others -- I think there is a Mercure for example. Hotel shuttles get full or are unreliable -- be right AT the airport where you don't have to worry about transport to the airport.

We stayed at the Citizen M hotel at the airport and Loved the hotel. Walked there from the airport bus stop, took a few minutes. The hotel has a great vibe, you check in yourself, get a key and an iPad with the room that operates lights, tv etc. Small rooms but really nice and modern. The Resturant and bar is set up like you are in a living room and encourages socializing with others if you choose. Will defo stay again. Google the hotel.

Thank you all for your responses. For years I have hesitated to stay in the Terminal itself as it seems like an extension of what is to be an already long flight/trip and noise.
I have been intrigued by Citizen M for a few years now but thought it might be too sterile and stuffy as it is so small. Was it quiet? I didn't know if they had a restaurant if we arrive after 9pm. Otherwise I like their concept.....

I would strongly suggest making other dinner arrangements --- eat and then show up late. The very worst meal we have had in our travels was at the CDG airport Hilton -- and it was virtually inedible accompanied by very high cost and VERY rude staff. The cost we expected and would not have felt cheated by if the food had not been dried out and truly awful.

We stayed at the airport Hilton for a very moderate price. It was perfectly fine for our purposes - a trip into Paris then resting up for driving out the next day. We really liked the convenience of being right at the airport.
We were fortunate to escape janettravels' experience since we didn't eat at the hotel.

For those who want to stay near the terminals the night before a flight, there are 2 newer moderately priced hotels within covered walking distance of the tram system that goes to the terminals, CDGVAL. They are a Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Mercure.

I just posted this information yesterday in another thread about airport hotels. I would do what others mention though about eating a nice meal IN Paris before heading out to your hotel for a good night’s sleep before your flight.

EDIT: Both hotels are about 2 years old. We stayed at the HIE and walked over to the Mercure to check out its restaurant. Very new and convenient hotels.

I have stayed several times over the years in Roissy en France which is direct 5-10 mins from the airport by car or shuttle and a good option with a rental car that can be dropped off the following day before the flight.( you avoid the unpredictable and unforeseen Paris transportation problems when having to be at the airport in the morning/early afternoon......especially during strike periods.)
There are many hotels ....it is a literal hotel village. Does anyone have a recommendation there for a hotel or restaurant? I have stayed at several but would be interested in others experiences.

Echoing the fear-the-food warnings of others: I stayed at the Ibis CDG and found the food options seriously wanting. Among other things, the main restaurant didn't open for dinner until 7 PM, which struck me as a very odd situation at a large airport hotel. I scrounged something somewhere that wasn't inedible, but I wasn't happy. I had taken the train in from Nantes, so having dinner in Paris before going to the hotel wasn't particularly practical.

Our night-before favorite is the IBIS at the airport, just hop on the CDGVAL shuttle train to your gate. Dinner in Paris is a good idea, or McDonalds as a getting-back-to-normal meal.

we just stayed at the holiday inn express at CDG this August and thought it was just fine. A quick walk from the train shuttle.

I've spent my last night in the CDG Sheraton on my last two Paris trips. It's way outside my normal budget, but the rooms are certainly very comfy & it relieves so many stresses about catching a morning flight out. Since I had a car on both trips, I spent my last day in Senlis, dropped the car off late that afternoon, walked up to the Sheraton & checked in. I walked over to my gate the next morning, without even having to leave the building. Dinner that night & brekkie in the morning were very nice, if a bit steep, but I'm willing to bite the bullet for a stress-free flight day. Plus, a few hours of "luxe" help to ease the pain of ending a French vacation.

We prefer a terminal 3 hotel or the Sheraton in T2 in order to avoid the airport shuttle bus from Roissy-en-France. But, two times when we've stayed at the Roissy hôtels, we've eaten at the Mercure for dinner. It was fine. One of our worse meals ever was at the crêperie in Roissy Village.

Roissy-en-France is such a sterile, pedestrian unfriendly, boring airport atmosphere--with no shops, nowhere to go but your room or the hotel bar, that you may as well be at T3.

Unless ordering freshly grilled meats, cooked eggs, or salads, most of the Accor corporation food is cooked off-site in industrial kitchens: Ibis, Novotel, Mercure, Courte Paille, autoroute restaurants....

I have stayed at the Novotel at Terminal 3 three times and was never even aware that I was at the airport until I left to get on the CDGval to head for my flight. The restaurant isn't terrible - I have eaten dinner there and it certainly doesn't compare to having a meal in Paris, but it is convenient. The breakfast buffet starts at 5am and is quite good. You can always take the RER into Central Paris for dinner. The RER station is right below the hotel.

I stayed at the CDG Sheraton twice this past May. The rooms are spotless, spacious, quiet, and comfortable. Very convenient to the TGV Station at CDG, as well as Terminal 2. The restaurant was excellent also. I would definitely stay there again if I had a morning flight out of CDG.
