We are renting a car in Provence and would like to return it and fly out of CDG. Is there a hotel near CDG that is near transport or provides any type of shuttle service to the airport so we could return the car, spend the night and catch our flight the next day?
How about staying at one of the hotels at the airport? See http://easycdg.com/airport-guide/hotels-cdg-airport/. Much depends on what time in the morning your flight is leaving but taking shuttles from hotels near airports can be stress inducing. I have heard a lot of stories about the shuttle taking forever and I have one myself. That being said, there are several hotels near CDG that offer transport to CDG. There is a Holiday Inn that has a shuttle, for example, but I have not stayed there. If you are going to return the car the night before, you may as well stay at the airport if the budget allows.
We stayed at the Ibis which is pretty much right at CDG.

and to beat a dead horse Stay AT the airport not near the airport. And if you arrive early in the day say early afternoon, you can grab the RER into town and have dinner and an evening stroll in Paris before heading back to the hotel and airport. The dining options at airport hotels are really grim in my experience -- worth the cost of a trip into Paris for dinner. And I love having my last vacation moments walking around Notre Dame illuminated at night - one of earth's great sights.
Hi,
There are numerous hotels at CDG ranging from budget to the Sheraton. These hotels have shuttle service. On the last night in Paris, I arrive at the airport hotel "Campanille" a two star by 20:00 hrs. The Campanille also has a shuttle service.
The airport hotels have shuttles? I have never heard that before. The nearby hotels have shuttles but surely not the ones in the airport such the the Sheraton which is right in Terminal 2.
The "Campanille" at CDG has a shuttle plus a good restaurant, I've stayed there a few times the last night prior to flying the next day from CDG. It's a French two star chain.
Or rather than spoil a lovely vacation by spending the last night at CDG, you could return the car in Provence, take the TGV to Paris and enjoy your last night of your vacation in my favorite city. I stayed at CDG on one of my trips and vowed never to waste a minute at an airport hotel again. Just thought I'd give you my perspective!
Lots of choices as listed above. We are Marriott junkies and enjoyed their hotel at CDG: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/parmc-paris-marriott-charles-de-gaulle-airport-hotel/
The shuttle to the airport was reliable and frequent. Nice hotel; excellent dining room. We noted several others up and down the same road, all convenient to CDG. Note, however, the steep (E25/night) extra charge for overnight parking. You might want to check-in and unload luggage, then return the rental car and use the shuttle.
We have stayed twice at the Marriott at CDG. I would also describe the shuttle as frequent and efficient...we saw lots of airline folks staying there and shuttling...I can't imagine they would risk honking off that crowd with unreliable shuttle service. Short walk into Roissy for several dinner options. I easily changed the reservation after rates decreased...I watch this stuff. Friendly staff helped us make phone calls and spent some time getting the info on my nephew's flight. Breakfast buffet is huge; look for rate deals that include breakfast. Safe travels.
I would do anything to avoid staying at an airport hotel. Flying out of CDG we have stayed many times in towns 10-20 minutes away by car (Senlis and Plailly) and returned the car before our flight. Other times we've stayed in Paris the night before and taken the RER to the airport. But if your flight is too early in the morning to do either of those, I'd take the advice of those who said to stay at the airport but go into Paris for as much of the day as possible and for dinner.
Galumbaugh, Just to be clear, when I say airport hotel, I mean a hotel that is actually on the airport premises so that you can walk to the terminals. I note that "airport hotel" can mean hotels near the airport with shuttle service to the airport. Though many have had great experiences with nearby hotels with shuttles to CDG, I have had too many pulse pounding moments with hotel shuttles (not at CDG, to be fair) to risk using them anymore.
Seconding the recommendation for IBIS at CDG -- no Parisian charm, but you WALK to the free airport CDGVAL train which gets you to your terminal in <5 minutes. We dropped the car off at CDG the evening before, strolled to the hotel, and got to our morning flight with NO hassle or stress.
And you can get a discount by joining the Accor "club" when you make your booking.
There are free hotel shuttle buses to certain hotels. We stayed at the Ibis Budget Roissy CDG Paris. It is on the color-coded "silver shuttle" route. There is another higher-level Ibis next door. The Ibis Budget was basic and no frills but clean, quiet and comfortable which met our needs. You can buy a breakfast for an additional 6 euros. For dinner, there is a restaurant next door "Grill Courtepaille" which was surprisingly better than what we expected from an airport-area hotel.
We arrived late when it was dark and raining, the hotel was the last stop. Having just arrived from the States my ears were not tuned to French, the shuttle driver called out the stop as "eebiss boozhay" and it took me a few seconds to comprehend what he was saying. The good news is the next morning, CDG was the first stop from the hotel.
I stayed at the Citizen M and liked it. Quirky but in a good way. The bed was a lot of fun. The person next to the window had to climb over the other to get out of bed. That was good for a laugh! If I stay there again, I would put the pillows by the window and be able to slide out the end of the bed and not have to climb over hubby!. The food there was not bad but don't expect a fine dining room. Great for the price!
We have stayed at the Ibis at CDG, it is a good value and it is right at the stop for the free shuttle train direct to Terminal 2. We plan to be there again this October.
