Cauterets - anyone been in summer?

We’re looking at staying for several nights this July in the Pyrenees, close to the Pyraneees National Park, and have identified Cauterets as a potential town. It’s a big ski destination in winter, but we’d be there for hiking, and being fairly close to the Tour de France route on a couple of days.

Does anyone have personal experience here, any time of year, but especially in July? Lodging recommendation? Dining? Any any specific recommended hikes?

Merci!

Our regular holiday is Cauterets in summer.

We booked our accommodation through the tourist office the first year, and liked it so much we now book direct at the same place.

The best restaurant in town (in our opinion) recently had a change of ownership, but the Basque Farm comes highly recommended by locals, and a short walk to la Ralliere gives you more options.

Our blog posts about Cauterets are many - and here. https://daysontheclaise.blogspot.com/search?q=Cauterets&max-results=20&by-date=true&m=1

Now I’m intrigued. My grandfather was there during WWI and I was trying to figure out how to work it into a trip, possibly next year.

Simon, thank you! Andrea, we’re definitely going, and have reserved our lodging in Cauterets.
