Catacombs - specific question

I'll be travelling with a group of 8 to Paris later this summer, when I know the catacombs are busy.

I know I can get advanced tickets for 29E/pp from the official website. The tickets at the entrance are only 12E/pp.

The delay in getting into the catacombs is that no more than 200 people can be in there at a given time, so the wait can be 3-5 hours during busy times. What I'm wondering is if there are 2 lines... one for tickets and one to get in.

If the ticket line is long and the getting in line is short (meaning they hold the ticket line until they know a purchaser can actually get in), then my question is if I can buy a ticket at the end of the day for the next day? At 7:30 pm, when they let in the last people, the rest of the line will disburse and should result in a short ticket line. If tickets are only sold for the current day, this won't be helpful.

If the ticket line is short and the getting in line is long (meaning they sell tickets, but then you wait to get in), can I go to the ticket line in the morning and get a timed ticket for later in the afternoon, avoiding the long lines?

If someone has local knowledge, I'd really appreciate it. If we can so something like this, it would save our group 136E, which makes it worth considering.

Thanks in advance

We were there as a party of 5 last summer. I can't remember if we bought tickets in advance but based on what you are saying, we must have bought them there bc we didnt spend 29/per. We went first thing in the day, and got there I believe 30 minutes before opening, as we were trying to avoid the worst lines. We still waited ~90 minutes (but 30 of that was before opening and just got us a spot closer to the front of the line). There was another line, and I think it was for people with pre-purchased tickets and for school groups. So, the ticket-buying line takes 1-3 hours, and you would be waiting in it no matter how you time the visit. I recommend going in the morning. I recall it opens at 9. We arrived at 8:30 (and there was already a line). There is a Paul's bakery across the street, so members of our party took turns going over there for breakfast items, and then we sat where we could or stood and ate breakfast. The wait was not onerous, however, the line got much longer very soon after we arrived. We were around the corner from the ticket booth. The line continued down the block within 30 minutes of our arrival. So try for 8:30 am arrival and purchase breakfast and tickets there?
good luck

Note that there are no restrooms in the Catacombs before loading up on coffee and pastries in line.

I'd suggest that you purchase advance tickets ahead of time and save yourself the trouble.
There is a roped-off part where you just go in - print your tickets, first.
There are group tickets - I can't get the Catacombes to come up, but you can look for the official website.
If you want to be first in line, get there at 8:30 AM.

My preference is to send one of our party to get tickets the night before and then go directly to the short line when we get there the next day. If that's not possible, I know my other options.

Thanks,
Nadine

Often places that sell tickets on line and on site do not allow on site purchase for later; the Eiffel Tower is like that. don't know about the Catacombs but be prepared to find that they don't sell tickets for later, but only for right now.

I'd still print your tickets ahead of time - to avoid going with a group of 200 people.
There are no timed tickets. But there is a roped-off space where you can go in. Beats waiting 3 to 5 hours.

I doubt very very much that you can prebuy tickets for the next day.. presold tickets are usually limited capacity.. meaning they wont have any for the next day as folks pre purchase them well in advance to be assured of getting them.

Your holiday is costing you thousands.. don't skimp out on this.. your time is valuable too.

I have been to the Catacombs three times.. the first time was many years ago( at least 10).. walked right in.. ( this is when no one knew about them..) the next time was about 5 years ago.. waited 3 hours.. and the last time was 3 years ago.. we arrived too late.. it was about 15 minutes AFTER opening.. and waited 3.5 hours.. ( I didn't want to go but was taking folks who had never been and they were motivated to stand in line for hours and hours.. ugh.. what I do for my loved ones.. lol )
