While in Europe this summer, we would like to visit a catacomb and wondered if Paris has any that would be really interesting. We were going to see one in Rome, but the ones recommended there are really far away by bus and a guide is required. Thank you for any advice on this matter. Linda
Get there early! No guide required.

Indeed, Paris does have catacombs. Once inside you take a winding 45 minute or so walk under Paris. There are skulls and bones piled high in places as graves were moved underground.. One major caveat, there can be a very long wait to get in. We waited about 2-3 hours to enter. Once in line for about an hour we had to make a choice whether to cut our losses and leave or wait. We chose to stay in line. The catacombs were pretty cool, but not worth the wait in line. I suggest checking on line to see if there is a reservation option. Another option is to show up early ahead of opening and gauge the line. The entrance is easily reached by metro. Hank, Novato, CA
Rome's catacombs are pretty empty. The Paris catacombs are chocked full of bones, millions of dead people artfully arranged in piles of skulls, femurs, and scapulae. Creepy, drippy, and fun. Here is a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_Paris
We visited the Capuchin crypts in Rome last year and no guide was required.
Planning to get a skip the line ticket for the Catacombs in Paris this year to avoid the long wait: http://catacombes.paris.fr/
