I know it's advisable to purchase catacomb tickets during peak hours but what about after 5p? Has anyone gone in the late afternoon-evening? How long was the line? Would you recommend advance ticket purchase? The website states to expect less crowds after 5p but doesn't say if there is still a long line-just not as long as during the day? BTW, we plan to visit in July.
If you try to go on the weekend, the line goes on until the Catacombes closes for the night.
Most other people give up during the week before 5 PM, especially if it's very hot or raining.
I'd advise purchasing advance tickets online so you can go into the reserved entrance for ticket holders. It's the roped-off area right in front.
The wait was around 1 hour at 5pm on Wednesday. We were so glad we purchased tickets online and didn't need to wait in line when it was over 90 degrees!
This is exactly the information I need. Thanks everyone. I'm going to buy my tickets online. Is there any special instructions I need for using the site?
If you know the exact time and date you want to visit, then buy tickets from the official website. We bought ours from Headout with priority access which has flexible time good for up to a year. We picked them up by a tabac near the Catacombs and it was easy. You could search for discount codes online and it comes down to a few euros more than the official price. It really worked to our advantage because we didn't want to commit to a specific time yet still have skip the line privilege.
We are going home tomorrow. Sigh. if you need more information please let me know.

I was looking into that site... thank for the heads up about the coupon code
