Carte Avantage Senior card for SNCF

Hi everyone. My trip to France isn't until October, but I've been playing with the SNCF app using different dates on the same day of the week to get an idea of times and prices for my travel. I'll be moving between Paris, Dijon, Lyon, Annecy, Montpellier, Narbonne and Toulouse with day trips from those cities as well, so I think it's probably worth purchasing this ticket at 49$, but the description is a little confusing to me. It looks like I'll get a 30% discount on tickets, and there is a cap on prices of tickets, but a few things have * behind them, as if there should be more explanation, but for the life of me I can't find the additional info. The discount is for any day of the week, right? It says something like "sometimes I like to travel on weekends" when suggesting this card to the purchaser.

Has anyone used this card, and if so, can you confirm whether or not it's worth purchasing?

I appreciate any helpful input. Thank you!

I have had a senior card for several years, but I live in France. The price caps are in 2nd class. 1st class isn't mentioned. Some of your trains are local trains; you get a reduction on those, too.

To see if it's worth purchasing for your itinerary, you need to plug in the cities and dates, look at the prices, add up all the fares, subtract 30% for your TGV and Intercities, and 25% for your local trains (though the discount could be higher), and see if the savings come to over 49-euros.
TGV (30%): Paris-Dijon, Lyon-Montpellier
Intercities (30%)-Montpellier--Narbonne--Toulouse
Local train Dijon (25-50%) --Lyon Lyon--Annecy, Montpellier to Toulouse can also be done by local train

Since you'll be traveling to Montpellier, Narbonne, and Toulouse in the Occitanie region (roughly southwest France), note that liO, the region's public transportation service, offers special discounts that can be as low as €1 per train (or regional bus) ticket, or rail passes at attractive prices.

Thank you both for your input. I think I will go ahead and purchase this card. It looks easy to use, as if it can be connected to my SNCF account profile, and just taking into account the moves between cities, looks as if it will be worth it, although I had to plug in dates in July and August to get an idea of prices for now.

I'm sure I'll have more questions about my trip as it gets closer, so again, I appreciate the help I receive here.

I'm in the middle of buying some local and intercities tickets right now. I'm getting a 10% discount, not 30%. Frankly, I was surprised to read that the discount is 30%. I usually don't pay attention to the amount saved.

If you send me the beginning and ending stations/cities, the date and time the train leaves, I will look up the ticket prices with a card. You probably won't get a quick response because it's already 9 pm in France.

Example: October 3, Paris to Dijon, 7:55 am, train number Lyria 9261

Elizabeth, I believe I linked the page where I got the information indicating 30% off.

As one example, I entered a trip from Paris city to Dijon city on Monday July 14, and chose the train leaving from Gare de Lyon- Hall 1&2 at 11:56, Lyria no. 9269.

I guess because I'm now 60 years old, there's a box above the prices that suggests I might like the carte avantage senior TGV INOUI card "to get a 30% discount on my intercites and TGV INOUI tickets in 2nd or 1st class". If I slide the tab to apply this discount, the price of 2nd class goes from 78 euro down to 54 euro. The first class ticket goes from 104 euro to 72 euro.

The savings seems worth it unless there's a catch I'm not spotting. Does that sound right to you?

I’m glad there’s a way to compare with and without the card. That certainly does seem worth it. I’ve never seen a comparison bar, but I did look up and read the 30% reduction. As I said, I never pay attention to how much has been lopped off, but I did pay attention today while buying tickets from the Hérault to somewhere near Menton, meaning local and inter cities trains.

Get the card enjoy the savings. Just make sure you have it ready if a surly conductor insists on seeing it

why the attitude towards train crew? Why would asking to see the authority for a train discount make them surly? It is a requirement for that ticket.

I'm with you, Nigel. Perhaps phred had a bad experience with a conductor. I haven't run into any problems with train personnel, but I guess it does happen sometimes.

Not sure why the attitude towards perceived crew attitude, either. Perhaps a case of we get what we give.

I have the Carte Advantage Senior. I tried and tried to add my photo to in the app, with no success. So, sometimes the crew asked to see my passport, my Carte, or both. I showed them, I wished them bonne journee and they were on their way. Not difficult.
