Carnet tickets or Navigo (or Mobilis) pass?

Our family of three (two adults, one child under 12) plan to take a day trip to Versailles and possibly Fontainbleau during out five-day stay in Paris. These are in Zone 5, n'est-ce pas? Therefore, which type of transportation ticket or pass is more economical with reliability: RER/SCNF ticket, Mobilis (1-day) or Navigo Decouverte pass? What are recommendation in light of possible train strike days?

If your 5 day stay falls within Monday through Sunday, the Navigo pass would probably be your best bet for both price and convenience. You will need to bring 25 x 30 mm pictures - nothing fancy, it can be printed on plain paper. Price is €22.80 (+ €5 For the card, which can be used again) - I'm not sure if there is a lower price for a child under 12, but there are many threads on this subject on this forum.

Actually, Versailles is in zone 4, Fontainebleau is in zone 5. However, zones apply to those purchasing passes, rarely to those using tickets.

Everything depends upon the day of the week you arrive and whether or not a weekly Navigo fare is useful to you.

The current strike will have little to no effect on your itinerary other than traveling to Fontainebleau.

Is the one-day Mobilis pass good for 24 hours after you first use it or is does it expire at 11:59pm of the day you use it?

Does the Mobilis expire at 11:59pm the day it is used or does it last 24 hours from the first time it is used?

children's prices for regular metro tickets are for those 4-9 so a 12 year old is an adult for local travel.

Get the ND if your dates fall between M and S of one week. Otherwise use a carnet of ordinary metro tickets 10 for 14.90 for Paris and get specific point to point tickets for Fontainbleau and Versailles -- 2 for each person.

What I like about the ND is it covers buses as well and the funicular in Montmartre.
Enjoy your trip.

Regular t+ tickets in the carnet 'cover' buses, funicular, metro etc as well as does the Mobilis.

I got the 1 day Mobilis pass on 19-nov-18 and was able to exit at CDG at 0:07 (12:07 am) on 20-nov-18 without a problem. Also the Mobilis worked between CDG and Notre Dame
