Carentan visit?

I'm planning my trip to the DDay sites in May and was watching Band of Brothers for some historical background. I will be based in Bayeux and my second day includes Arromanches, Omaha Beach area, Pointe de Hoc, and the Maisy area. Is it worth a slight side trip to Carentan on my return to Bayeux. It appears to have been quite the battle and I was wondering if the town was worth visiting from a historical prospective.

We used Carentan as our base for visiting the D Day sites and spent two nights there. It doesn't have lots to see from a historical perspective but it's a pleasant town. I don't think I'd make a special trip but if you're nearby, it's worth a stop.
