We want to travel by car from Carcassonne to San Sebastián in two days. What villages/sights should we not miss? What should we be aware of about this route? We have no reservations for the night we will be traveling. Recommendation for a mid way point and hotel or B and B? We know we will stop at st Jean pied de port but I’m afraid it will be swamped with hikers. Is the Pyrenees National Park the way to go to see this area?

We drove the reverse and stayed overnight in
Sauveterre- des -Cominges at the Hostellerie de 7 Molles filled with Parisians who come to dine there, wonderful place, and also stayed in Olaron -Ste-Marie st Hotel Alysson. It looked like a chain roadside hotel but it was fine and also had an incredible dining room. We had only booked these places the day before and they were winners. At some point we visited Lourdes. We chose to drive on French side of Pyreenes as the highway is closer to them, good views.
