HI All
I will be in Carcassonne on July 3 and leaving from Nice on July 8th. I was thinking of stopping in each of each of those towns -Marseille and Montpellier for a couple of nights each before heading to Cannes/Nice for the last night.
Do you think it is better to stop in each of the towns or choose one and explore? I will be solo and will be travelling by train. I was in this area last year but never made it this far down. I like museums, markets and wandering around. TIA
Let's get you going in the right direction. It's Carcassonne, Montpellier, Marseille, Nice.
Carcassonne--> Montpellier is 1:20 by Intercités or TGV. Advance Tix with reserved seat required.
Montpellier--> Marseille is 1:30 by Intercités. Avoid the TER local train that is much longer
Marseille--> Nice 3 hours because all trains have to slow down on these tracks.
You have three nights, the 4th, 5th, 6th. I'd spend them in Montpellier and take a day trip to Sète (19 minutes), maybe Nîmes (30 minutes). Rent a bike at the end of Tram 3 and ride down to the beach. Buy La Gazette newspaper to find the listing of all activities, music festivals, and art exhibits. If it's hot, the Fabre art museum has US style air conditioning. Montpellier is a great town for hanging around.
