Car service from CDG to Paris Hotel

I used a car service 10 years ago into Paris. They met our flight out of the baggage claim and also I had ordered
museum passes through them, and they brought them to the airport. For the life of me I cannot remember the name
of the company.
Has anyone recently had a car service that they can recommend.

Honestly, since then, the city of Paris has instituted fixed-fare taxi rides between the airport and the city, so you can no longer get stuck with an excessive taxi fare even if you get stuck in traffic.

Rates are 56€ to the Left Bwnk and €65 to the Right Bank. The fare includes up to four people plus their luggage.

Just follow the signs in the terminal to the taxi line and don't go with anyone who approaches you in the terminal even if they tell you they are an « authentic » taxi.

Also, many people on the Forum have reported that the museum pass is no longer the draw it once was, as it no longer allows repeat visits to the museums, and you have to reserve a time ahead anyway, even with the pass. You may feel differently once you explore the changes, of course, but you should be aware of them so you can make an informed decision.

Never felt the need for a car service in Paris, since it is a flat fee for taxis and they can use the bus lanes, unlike the car services.

The Museum Pass isn't the value it was pre Covid. You might want to take a look at the new rules before deciding if they are still a good value to you. You can buy it at the Tourist Information Point at the airport.

To compare, my hotel had a car service on offer last month and the charge was €135

I took taxis both from and to CDG and the drivers did not try to charge me any supplements above the standard fare,
which took me by surprise -- they could ding you for a variety of things if they want, like handling your bags or waiting for you to get in or somesuch, but most recently mine did not.

I've used a car service before and they are much more expensive than taking a cab. Just follow the signs.

Do taxis in Paris take credit cards? What's na appropriate tip?

  1. Yes. But ask before you get in. If they say their machine is broken, refuse the ride. Likely the machine will magically start working. Or go to the next taxi.

  2. Short ride: round up. Long ride or help with your bags: no more than 10%.

They can't 'ding you for extra supplements' -- the fixed fare is for 4 people and luggage and no extra fees are allowed for luggage, for time of day or day of week or anything else.

I've had a taxi driver from the airport try to "ding" me for a Sunday supplement, as he called it. I waited to pay him until he got our luggage from the trunk then handed him what I knew was the correct fare. I also gave him enough of a stink-eye so he knew not to ask for that Sunday supplement.

I would disagree on tipping. A tip is not appropriate unless he/she schleps your bags up two flights of stairs at your lodging because you're unable.

Just get in the official Paris taxi line and CDG. It moves very quickly. It's a fixed rate depending on right or left bank. All the taxi's we used were modern, clean and professional. (Don't be distracted by anyone offering you a ride on your walk to the taxi line. If you need an official taxi around Paris (but not from CDG) use the G7 Paris taxi app. Like Uber only official taxis.

I need to disagree with something above. A tip is appropriate if you want to give one. We usually do, but just a couple of Euros or a bit more if more effort is involved. My Parisian husband grew up with several taxis drivers as family friends, so we almost always do.

However we didn’t tip on our recent 6 kilometre ride to our apartment from our tiny regional airport here in France because somehow the fare was nearly double at 11 on a Wednesday morning. This was after an overnight flight coming home from a visit to the US.

I admit I always tip, and more than I should. I am always just so grateful that I got to the airport in an easy way and that someone else had to worry about traffic and I didn't have to worry about my bags.. plus those guys (almost always guys, I honestly can't think of the last time I had a female taxi driver) are earning so little that I always figure a little extra will be welcomed.
