Where to return rental car in Lyon?

We are spending a few nights in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence this fall and will have a rental car. We are then spending a few nights in Lyon where we will return the car upon arrival since we will not need the car in the city. We are hoping to stay near La Presqu’île or Vieux Lyon, accommodations are not yet booked. Where is a convenient place to return a car - airport or near a train station (Lyon-Perrache or Lyon St Exupéry)? Lyon-Perrache seems closer to the city centre but I am not sure about traffic on a Saturday afternoon in October.

We returned a rental at Perrache. Our in-car GPS was challenged with getting us there, or maybe it was just our confusion in following the directions given. It was quite a confusing and stressful process. I think we returned on a Saturday. Traffic was challenging as well. We snagged the only open parking space in a smallish lot that had some spaces labeled for rentals. The rental office inside was closed but I knew that beforehand. We easily found the drop box inside for the key return. I took LOTS of pictures of the car upon leaving it and prayed that there would be no harm before the company checked it in. All ended well!

Return it at the airport, that way you don't have to drive in the central areas and can just take the Rhônexpress to central Lyon.

Also, there is really no choice between the airport and St Exupéry station, it's basically the same place.
