Car return Germany/France

Hi,

We will be ttavelling from Munich and rent a car there and after we will be going to France, Annecy and Paris after.
I see there is a one way fee of over 1,000 Euros for return in France, so wondering what is the best option?
I saw I can return a car in Lörrach and then rent a new one in Basel- Mulhouse airport on the French side. It should take less than 30 minutes drive, my question is if there are any taxis I can reserve?

Thanks

It might be easy enough to return the car in Germany, then take the train to Basel and pick up the new rental car there. Otherwise, just have the car rental place in Lorrach call you a taxi, or use a taxi app.

Since a car for the entire trip is not really an option, figure out where you really need a car, and plan for that. How long is this trip? Besides Munich, Annecy, and Paris, what are you looking to do?

Hi,
Thanks all for the answers. This is a tricky trip, ot involves going for Taylor Swift concert in Munich and then for France for the Olympics and between few days in Annecy and probably Beaune.
For both Annecy and Beaune we would need the car, in Munich we can manage without one an din Paris it is better to be without;)
The problem I saw is that there is no direct train from Munich to any city in France so in any case we would need a train and a taxi/additional train to the French border. Since we will be 5 people with lugage, I thought of renting a car in Munich and drive to the nearest city in Germany that is close to the French border and then I thought I would go by myself to take the car while my fanily waits with tge luggage.
Complicated, I know;)

You might also check Weil am Rhein, which is even closer. Not all car rentals are in airports, of course. But if you have a specific requirement, like an automatic transmission, or extra seating, you might be better off at a bigger agency. Be sure to look at the daily hours for the days you will be using a car rental location, including lunch hours.

Have you asked yourself if you absolutely need a car for this very long trip? Do you have car rental experience in Europe? I'm not suggesting that your are not a splendid, highly-skilled driver. I'm asking about multiple insurances, parking situations, medieval city street plans, unattended gas stations, gas costs, and savage city traffic. There's also the question (perhaps) of Sustainability stickers for some cities and towns. It's not a slam-dunk that the freedom of the open road will be the best solution.

Thanks, I did check it but didn't see Avis or Sixt which are my favourites.
Regarding driving, I do have some experience in Greece, France and Italy (few times and regions) and always with alrge cars (7-9 seaters), ao with that I'm comfortable.
Regarding the need for the car, as explained just befor your answer, I do need it for part of the time, and I believe that the best option for us to move from Munich to Annecy would probably be driving and replacing the car, rather than have to change 2 trains with full family and luggage.

Thanks again!

Why do you think you need a car in Annecy and Beaune? They both have charming old town centres that are best explored on foot. I really can't see how having a car in any of them would be an advantage. And Munich is not a city where you can manage without a car, just like Paris it's a city where a car is just an expensive headache.

If you think that there are no trains from Munich to France you are mistaken. There is a daily TGV from Munich to Paris that also stops in Strasbourg on the way. But changing trains is not hard or tricky in any way. Even if you have luggage. You can take the train to Geneva with one easy change in Züich, and from Geneva it's just a short trip by regional train to Annecy.
