Car RentalPick up at Porte Maillot drop off at Chartres or ORY?

We are renting a car in September, the first stop is Giverny so are considering renting a car close to Porte Maillot station. Is this a good place to get a car, is there a better location?

After 2 weeks we are headed back to spend a few more days in Paris, our last night before Paris is Chartres. To avoid Paris traffic is it better to drop off the car in Chartres and take the train to Paris or maybe drop off at ORY?

Any advice or where to rent a car and drop off or which company to use would be appreciated, thanks!

Check Autoeurope. They have info on several rental car companies and locations, etc. In smaller locations, rental com panties may have very limited hours, often closed Sundays and for 2 hour lunches on weekdays. Saturdays are maybes. We have gone through them several times with good satisfaction. www.autoeurope.com
They have a US office also. No problem with using English. You can find what suits you. My only caveat is to check the hours some places are open. (Not autoeurope's fault...it's the car rental companies' hours.)

I've rented from the Hertz at Porte Maillot. It is easy enough to get to from many places you might be in Paris, and once you leave there, you are very quickly closer to the highways out of town than leaving from an airport. As for where to return, I would think it would be easiest to drop at Chartres and head to Paris—although I have never been to Chartres myself.

If you can drop off in Chartres, that's a great idea, especially if you drop off right upon arrival and save a day's rental.
